They will then listen to classmate’s conversations on the ipods and have a gallery walk, showcasing all they have learned about their country.

Each team of “campers” received a Macbook Air and two iPads to assist in working through the process.

Mangahigh.com is a math game-based learning website, free to schools!  Some of our math teachers have started using it for review and practice.  Teachers sign up their class and can assign games to students based on their standards for class. The site has lessons to teach the concepts if the students need remediation.

The students are really engaged and showing progress.  This can be accessed from home as well, so students – ask your math teacher about MangaHigh!

Several of our teachers use a great resource, CNN Student News, for high-interest news stories relevant to students.  CNN Student News is a ten-minute, commercial-free, daily news program for middle and high school students produced by the journalists and educators at CNN.

Some teachers show it to the whole class and have a discussion, others have the students watch them on ipods along with the study resources on the site. It has good background information on current events and relates back to their daily life.

Mrs. Hughes 8th grade class decided that some students might need some direction in setting up their binders. They wrote the script, acted and filmed on the iPads the following video:

Students who complete their assignments like to play McGraw-Hill’s Baseball app and review their multiplication facts.

Number Line app gives instant feedback in comparing and ordering fractions, decimals and percents by lining them up on a number line.

Students solved two review questions, showing all of their work. The students then chose one of the problems that they felt the most comfortable with.  With the ShowMe app. on the iPad, they recorded short videos explaining and showing how they solved the problem.  They uploaded the videos to the teacher’s ShowMe account so that she was able to easily watch all of the videos to ensure the students understood the concept and/or procedure.

Each student chose a team and a concept from Chapter 2 in the 7^th grade Big Ideas textbook that they would research and then teach to the rest of the class.  The students used three class periods to research their concept and design a lesson to teach.  Once the students designed their lesson, they used the ShowMe app on the iPads to create a video explaining their concept.  These videos include vocabulary terms, key ideas, procedures and example problems.

The students also had to create an activity for the class to do while they presented, like a handout, notes, activity, etc.  Some students utilized the SMARTboard and had students coming up to the board.  Others had created a notes handout with vocabulary and examples.
